Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was officially incorporated on December 15, 1727, following a land grant in 1717. Early settlers, primarily from Sudbury and Marlborough, established an agricultural economy, notably with apple orchards, and by 1750, the town supported small industries including stores and taverns. Shrewsbury played a role as a staging area for Shays’ Rebellion in 1786 and later developed a leather industry, followed by gunsmithing and watch manufacturing.
