Ludlow past and Present

Ludlow is a town in Hampden County, Massachusetts, located on the Chicopee River. It was originally part of Springfield, and was settled by the English in the 1650s. It became a separate district in 1774, and a town in 1775. Ludlow was a farming community for most of its history, but also had some industries such as paper mills, ironworks, and textiles.

Ludlow was also the site of the first liquid-fueled rocket launch by Robert H. Goddard in 1926, which is commemorated by a plaque and a replica of the rocket. Today, Ludlow has a population of about 21,000 and is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. It has a diverse economy, with sectors such as education, health care, manufacturing, and retail.
